Kashmir Independence

I believe that Kashmir should be independent. India and Pakistan are fighting over the territory of Kashmir. Their human rights are being violated in different ways, and there is no peace between India and Pakistan. I will be talking about why Kashmir should be independent. First of all, the people of Kashmir want to be independent. A survey taken shows that 91% of Kashmir's population wants to be independent. They have been fighting for independence since 1989. An interview from NY times, proves that despite their opinions, Kashmir does not get a say in it. ¨´ Both countries have gone to war over Kashmir. But Kashmiris have never had a voice in any of these disputes,” said Abdul Hakeem Kashmiri, a prominent journalist in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani-held Kashmir .¨  People who want Kashmir to be independent are forbidden from the government. It is unfair that Kashmir does not get a say in what happens to them.    Secondly, Their human rights are...

Raven Wilkinson

Raven Wilkinson changed the world for African American dancers. Wilkinson loved ballet, but there were many people who did not love her doing it. She was the first African American to get a full time contract with a dance company. She faced racial discrimination throughout her career, but she still worked her hardest. People told her to cover up her race, but she was proud and determined to succeed.    Raven was very successful, but all of her success had to start somewhere. She started dancing at the age of 9, when her uncle signed her up for lessons with Maria Swoboda, in New York City where she was born and lived for most of her life. She continued ballet throughout her entire life, infact, Raven loved dance so much she danced until she was 50 years old! Raven danced with a few different companies, her first one was Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo followed by Dutch ballet, and when she got homesick, New York City opera. Later in her life she was a mentor to Misty Co...

Pros and Cons of Homework

How do you feel about homework? While homework is stressful and hard which is not good for your mental health, it also helps you academically which is very important. Whichever way you feel about homework there are many pros and cons that might change your opinion.   Homework helps with student achievement. Homework is like practicing school, the more you practice the better grades you get. You need good grades to get into a good college so homework is very helpful to kids' academic futures. In the High School Journal it is said that students who spent 31 to 90 minutes on homework every day scored around 40 points higher on the SAT-Mathematics subtest than the students who spent no time on homework. That is why homework is important.     Homework can also not be so great. Having too much homework can be bad, even harmful. Kids need free time, to just do what kids do. It stresses kids out and can also lead to an unhealthy amount of sleep loss, w...

Zero Hunger Problem and solution

World hunger is a major problem. We are trying to reach the global goal of zero hunger by 2030. There are many problems causing world hunger, but, there are also solutions that can help.  Poverty is actually a huge problem that is not helping zero hunger. An effect of poverty is little or no money which means scarce food. There are so many people that are in poverty, in 2013 it was estimated that 767 million people were living below the international poverty line living on $1.90 if they were lucky. We can help this problem by donating food to charities that give food to the homeless. Also if people could provide food for themselves sustainably that would be a very powerful solution. Weak economies and conflict in areas are both a problem in world hunger. Food insecurity has cost a lot of money. In 2010 $19.20 billion was lost because of food insecurity, charities, doctor visits because of illness from hunger etc. This makes economies very weak which l...

Animal Shelters

Animal shelters need money for various reasons. They need money for food, water, crates, beds and medicine if the dog has an illness. Animal shelters could have to kill the animals if they do not have enough money for all the animals. Animals have no voice of their own and are mistreated and killed way more than you would like to think.   Did you know that about 7.6 million companion pets are surrendered to animal shelters every year? It's true, and that is one of the reasons animal shelters don't have a lot of room and might have to kill the animals. Some people have to surrender their pets because of illness, and the shelters need money to take care of the animals. Others might have to surrender their pets because of landlord rules, allergies and moving. People also find injured or sick wild animals and give them to animal shelters.    My next reason is that the animal shelters overflow. When the shelters overflow some animals have to...
